Atomic Amethyst is signified by its trapiche-like patterning and inclusions of Calcite and Goethite. Trapiche is a type of milling wheel used to process sugar cane. Its spokes made it the namesake of trapiche gems, with their "spokes" or "arms" of inclusions between gemmy mineral growths. Atomic Amethyst aren’t true trapiche gems since the stone’s growth was continuous instead of growing in individual sectors. Still, these gems have the stunning symmetry associated with trapiche gems and are immensely rare.

Amethyst gets its rich purple color from iron and other trace elemental inclusions, as well as natural irradiation. The most prized Amethyst stones feature deep saturation of intense purple, as seen in the “spokes” of the Atomic Amethyst.
