The best quality Lapis comes from Afghanistan. This Afghan material sometimes has little specks of Iron Pyrite or white Calcite in it. Lapis has been mined in Afghanistan as early as the 7th millennium BC and has been discovered in many ancient burial grounds. In the middle ages, it was used not only for jewelry, but also ground into a powder to make “ultramarine,” the finest and most expensive of blue pigments. This pigment was used by Renaissance and Baroque artists, often reserved to paint the clothing of the central figures of their paintings, especially the Virgin Mary.
A true connoisseur of her craft, SallyJane draws inspiration from history and infuses her designs with contemporary allure. With reverence for the stones themselves, her handcrafted wired jewelry showcases a splendid array of gemstones, fossils, crystals, leather, wood, and even meteorites. Yet, it is the stones that take center stage with nature's exquisite artistry brought to life in each piece. Her designs embrace subtlety and minimalism, allowing the inherent elegance of the stones to shine.
