The Gaboon Viper, found in the rainforests and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa, has the longest fangs and the highest venom yield of any venomous snake. They can grow up to 81 inches long and is one of the heaviest venomous snakes in the world along with the king cobra and the eastern diamondback rattlesnake.
Nocturnal, Gaboon Vipers are known for being slow-moving and placid. They ambush hunt their prey, often spending long periods of time motionless. They are usually a very tolerant snake when handled, and rarely bite or hiss. Because of this, bites from Gaboon Vipers are very rare, usually only occurring when a human accidentally steps on them.
