Cambrian

541-485 Million Years Ago

100 million of years older than the first shark, 290 million years older than the first dinosaur, Trilobites shaped our world for nearly 300 million years when they appeared at the beginning of the Cambrian period and kicked off the Cambrian Explosion, which saw a rapid diversification of complex life. And diverse Trilobites were, with over 20,000 species (that we know of) that existed until the Permian mass extinction 252 million years ago.

Seen here is a composited cluster of Cambropallas Trilobite fossils, arranged to overlap to replicate a death plate. Although the composition is manmade, the fossils within are actual Trilobite fossils with minimal restoration work on each.

The positive and negative sides of the cluster are visible, providing a dual perspective that highlights the segmentation and texture of these ancient arthropods. An engaging objet d’art that’s part science, part sculpture, this unique piece is perfect for natural history and fossil collectors.
