Hop into the splash-zone to get a look at this Scolecite’s dramatic spray! Resembling a crystalline sea urchin, the crystals of the mineral radiate out from a common center in the matrix, giving the appearance of a “spray”. Scolecite is a type of igneous rock that forms in the cavities of volcanic basalt, and is part of the same Zeolite group as Stilbite. The thin, needle-like aggregations often form these dramatic, exploding “sprays”.
