Malachite Pseudomorph of Azurite

Malachite’s striking green color ranges from a mint green to a deep, verdant emerald that’s almost black, and does not fade over time or when exposed to light. They’re typically found as stalactites and botryoidal coatings on surfaces of underground cavities, but this Malachite is unique. While the stone was originally Azurite, green Malachite slowly replaced the blue Azurite crystals while retaining the crystal’s shape. Known as a “false form”, this phenomenon happens in copper deposits where chemical changes can alter the Azurite that had originally grown within. The result is a tabular, green crystal with a velvety texture.
