The ancient Egyptians had great reverence for the natural world and adorned themselves with objects and images from nature. Some mollusk shells were worn as protective amulets. The shells of the pearl oyster were often inscribed with the name of the ruling Pharaoh. Elaborate renderings were made of gold.
