Composed of strontium sulfate, Celestite (also called Celestine) is named for its delicate blue color. Its name is derived from the latin caelestis, meaning "celestial".

Popular for its use in fireworks, sky-blue celestite burns red due to its strontium composition. This signature blue is typical for celestite from Madagascar, and can be orange, yellow, or greenish gray due to various impurities- pure celestite is crystal clear
