Coelodonta antiquitatis
Late Pleistocene
Siberia, Russia
An extinct species of rhinoceros, the Woolly Rhino (Coelodonta antiquitatis) spent its day during the Pleistocene travelling across northern Eurasia thanks to its long, thick hair. This rhino’s teeth are the source of its scientific name, as koilos is the Greek for “hollow” and odous for “tooth”, from the depression in the rhino’s molar structure, giving it the scientific name meaning “hollow-tooth of antiquity”.
Each fossil is unique and will look different from the ones in the photo.
Specimens will vary in size, approximately 2 inches across, 3 inches long
