Megalodon is famous for its impressive teeth, the part of any cartilaginous shark most likely to preserve. The name "megalodon" itself means "giant tooth" in Greek. A Megalodon would have had approximately 276 teeth in its mouth at any given moment, though like other sharks, it would have been continuously dropping and re-growing teeth. A single Megalodon might have produced tens of thousands of teeth over the course of its lifetime, but few endure time and tide intact. This authentic 4.75 inch tooth was collected from a South Carolina riverbed by a former Navy diver and has been polished for preservation and display.
