Boa constrictors are non-venomous snakes famous for their method of subduing prey: squeezing, or constricting, it to death. Though they are not as long as their relatives, anacondas and reticulated pythons, boa constrictors rank among the longest snakes in the world. After a large meal, a boa doesn't need to eat again for weeks.
The red tailed boa is considered a New World species and is found in North, South and Central America including the Caribbean. Red tail boas get their name from the color of their red tail. The boa’s loosely hinged jaws can be stretched far apart, enabling it to swallow animals with bodies much larger in diameter than the boa’s head.
