Gabbro is a dark-colored igneous rock found in deep oceanic crust, found under the layer of basalt that forms at the bottom of the ocean. Ancient sea beds that now lay exposed on continents also contain Gabbro under their extensive flood basalts such as the Columbia River flood basalts of Washington and Oregon, as well as the Deccan Traps in India.

Polished Gabbro has a brilliant black luster and is often used for decorative purposes. It is able to stand up to weathering and wear, making it ideal for everyday use areas like kitchen counters and floor tiles.
