This Lapis Lazuli Lazy Susan is a beautiful, natural accent on any table or counter. Slices of Lapis have been fused together to create this vivid and functional statement piece.
For nearly 6,500 years, humans have coveted the richly-hued stone, Lapis Lazuli. Valued for its vivid color, Lapis has been found in art and jewelry in the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, India, Egypt, China, Greece, and Rome.
Historically, high-grade Lapis has been difficult to obtain, like during the Middle Ages and Renaissance period of Western Europe when crushed Lapis was used to create the stunning shade Ultramarine. A very expensive pigment, Lapis wasn’t as widely used as Azurite pigment, but is considered a stable shade that does not fade or change color over the years. This shade of blue was often used to color the clothes of the Virgin Mary.
