English major, artist, professional puppeteer, musical comedian- jeweler Sallyjane has made the round looking for an art medium to call home. It wasn’t until she started going to gem shows and got a piece of rutilated quartz wrapped when inspiration struck. Sallyjane started experimenting with wire-wrapped jewelry, and three years later went fulltime with the craft. For over 25 years, Sallyjane has been making wire wrapped jewelry with the crystals, fossils, meteorites, and gemstones from around the world with her husband, Steve. Based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, they travel across the US to showcase Sallyjane’s jewelry at gem and craft shows.
The Royston turquoise mines are located in Nevada near the town of Tonopah. Some of the turquoise cabochons are solid chunks of mostly turquoise with a small bit of matrix rock. The solid pieces are natural Royston turquoise. Others are “boulder turquoise” – veins of turquoise running through the matrix of rock. Sometimes the veins look like ribbons and will be referred to as “ribbon turquoise.” Tonopah is surrounded by turquoise mines.
