With a name derived from the French "citron", it's no surprise this vivid citrine geode resembles the inside of an orange slice. Citrine is one of the birthstones for November, making the gold-orange shades perfect for the Halloween-to-Thanksgiving transition. Citrine, like amethyst, is a quartz variant found in geodes and gets its color from iron impurities. With shades ranging from the perfect summer orange to a strong amber honey, citrine first became popular during the Hellenistic period. Later, Queen Victoria had a particular fondness for the stone and decorated in her summer residence with the gemstone in the mid 19th century.
