English major, artist, professional puppeteer, musical comedian- jeweler Sallyjane has made the round looking for an art medium to call home. It wasn’t until she started going to gem shows and got a piece of rutilated quartz wrapped when inspiration struck. Sallyjane started experimenting with wire-wrapped jewelry, and three years later went fulltime with the craft. For over 25 years, Sallyjane has been making wire wrapped jewelry with the crystals, fossils, meteorites, and gemstones from around the world with her husband, Steve. Based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, they travel across the US to showcase Sallyjane’s jewelry at gem and craft shows.
LABRADORITE was originally discovered in Labrador, but is found in other parts of the world including Finland where it is called “spectrolite.” This labradorite comes from Madagascar. The colors range from a gray-green to yellow, blue and even purple. Some rare labradorite looks like multi-colored black opal. The prominent peacock blue flashes in what’s called labradorescence are unique to this stone, and is when light is reflected in only one direction, rarely two. For this resplendent piece, it’s not too difficult to find the perfect light to make this labradorescence shine.
