The Navajo Wedding Vase is a handmade pottery piece used during wedding ceremonies. The medicine man blesses the water signifying the promise of love and eternal happiness for the couple. It is believed to bond companions in sharing everything they will obtain in life together. The bride and groom use the water from different spouts to wash their hands to bring them together for eternity. The Wedding Vases become a symbol of happiness.
M. Grey was born and raised on the Navajo Nation. She is born for the Mountain Coal and Edge Water People. She learned the art of etching pottery from her uncle and grandmother. She has then created and developed her own techniques. Grey’s coloring and etching style became very different and popular. Combining the process of horse hair and her artwork creates unique pottery work.
