Did you know the fossil remains of our water-dwelling friends are often better preserved than their terrestrial counterparts? When animals died millions of years ago on land, there’s a good chance their remains would be scavenged by other animals or destroyed by the elements. But if the animal died in the water, their body would sink down to the sediment at the bottom of the body of water relatively undisturbed and buried. Due to the lack of oxygen and quick burial, less of the fish is damaged and more details are able to fossilize.
Due to the natural variation of fossils, the specimen you receive may not look like the one pictured here. To browse our full selection of fish fossils, please visit us at the HMNS Hermann Park location near Downtown Houston.
Approximately 2-3.5 inches long, will vary between fossils.
