Polished orthoceras from Alnif, Morocco. Triassic Period (500 to 190 million years ago).
Orthoceras were among the most advanced invertebrates of their time having eyes, jaws, and a sophisticated nervous system. These creatures were highly successful predators that also had tentacles and ink sacs much like the modern-day squid.
