Douveilliceras ammonite from Madagascar and dates back to the Lower Cretaceous period, approximately 110 million years old. Ammonites were relatives of squids and nautili which thrived in the seas during the time of the dinosaurs.

Ammonites were among the most advanced invertebrates of their time having eyes, jaws, and a complex nervous system. These cephalopod mollusks were successful, sophisticated predators that also had tentacles and ink sacs, much like modern-day squid, cuttlefish, and nautilus.
