The ammonites are an extinct group of marine animals related to modern day mollusks.This fossil has been polished to show the internal structure. Ammonites were among the most advanced invertebrates of their time having eyes, jaws, and a complex nervous system. This cephalopod mollusk was a successful, sophisticated predators that also had tentacles and ink sacs, much like modern-day squid, cuttlefish, and nautilus.
